COMPLETING PEACE PROCESS, CONSTITUTION DRAFTING HINGES OF MAOIST PERFORMANCE
Kathmandu, 14 Nov.: Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba stated that the completion of the peace process and constitution drafting hinges on the performance of the UCPN-Maoist, RSS reports from Bardibas.
Deuba said so at a time when the incumbent Maoist-led government is seeking amnesty for the murder convict Maoist lawmaker Bal Krishna Dhungel and has inducted state minters involved in serious crimes.
Speaking at a programme organized by the Nepali Congress Mahottari District Committee on Sunday evening, leader Deuba opined that the country could get the peace and the statute only if Maoists lives up to the terms and conditions of the seven-point agreement inked among big wigs. The recent seven point agreement was signed to provide momentum to stalled peace process and constitution drafting through power-sharing. But the implementation of peace deal as mentioned in 7-point pact has been brought to halt owing to the Dhungel amnesty row and the issue over the expansion of Cabinet . Bhattarai Cabinet is the biggest cabinet till date. With 49 members, it surpassed the 48-member Cabinet led by former PM Sher Bahadur Deuba in 1996.
According to Deuba, the peace process would not meet its completion without the sincerity, yet to be exhibited solely from the side of Maoists, the former rebels who joined peace process five years back after signing Comprehensive Peace Agreement(CPA) with the then Seven Party Alliance( SPA)
Over the issue of internal differences riveting the NC, Deuba said, the party president Sushil Koirala merely rejecting his resignation from the post of Central Committee(CC) member wouldn’t bear any significant changes, unless Koirala
At the same occasion, NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi called on Maoists to complete twin task of peace and statute without putting blames on other parties, as it is now at the helm of government.
