UCPN (MAOIST) GENERAL; SECRETARY THAPA WARNS OF POSSIBLE SPLIT

UCP (MAOIST) MAY SPLIT WARNS GENERAL SECRETARY RAM BAHADUR THAPA

Kathmandu, 23 Nov. 23: General Secretary of the UCPN (Maoist) Ram Bahadur Thapa has said party can split if efforts were not made to reconcile of the ideological disagreement within the party, RSS reports from Itahari .

General Secretary Thapa said this after imparting training to leaders and workers of the Baidya faction in Dharan of Sunsari.

The training was run within strong security. Even the press was not allowed in the training, where Thapa said the establishment faction’s activities were against the party policies of the war time and that they had been opposing it, said one participant.

If efforts are not made to seek consensus on basic issues by top leaders, the party can split, he said, adding there will be no rationale of sticking in the party.

“We are not out to split the party, but to convince on the reality to the party workers”, he said.

Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai have been moving ahead against the party policies and course of action, he said, adding the main objective is to inform about this all.

He also said PLA was not of those seeking jobs but was of fighters who fought for the liberation of the Nepali people and it will be wrong that all fighters will be integrated in the army.

Thapa said one should not imagine of returning land unless the Nepali farmers and tillers are made owners of land through revolutionary land reform.

The Maoist General Secretary also warned that there will be a possibility of revolutionary leaders and workers going for people’s war if the present party leadership continued with reactionary decisions one after another.

We believe that the proletariat will aid the rebellion if the constitution does not come in their favor, said Thapa.

CP Gajurel and other leaders were also present in the training program, where Gajurel also made strong criticism of the latest activities of the party leadership.

MARTYRS, VICTIMS STAGE SET-IN FRONT OF PM RESIDENCE

Kathmandu, 23 Nov.: Martyrs Families and victims of the Janandolan staged a sit-in protest at the Gate No. 3 of the Prime Minister´s official residence at Baluwatar, and tried to disrupt the Prime Minister´s movement on Wednesday.

They staged the sit-in protest for around one hour at 8:00 am to 9:00 am, demanding to implement past agreements done with the Martyrs´ families and the victims of the Janaandolan, form a commission for necessary arrangement for them, and disrupted the movement for the Prime Minister for around 10 minutes.

Police have taken 10 activists, who disrupted the traffic, under control.

On the occasion, chairman of the Martyr Pratik Memorial Center Nepal, JB Dhaulakoti demanded to bear all the expenses for the treatment of the victims of Janaandolan and reinstate those who are separated from their families.

Chairman of the Concerned Committee of the Martyrs´ Families and the Injured, Meghraj Acharya warned of stern protests if the government turns deaf ear towards their demands.

ONLY 338 REGISTERED FM STATIONS RUNNING
Kathmandu, 23 Nov.: Out of 397 FM stations registered across the nation, only 338 FM stations have been broadcasting services regularly, RSS reports.

According to Assistant Spokesperson of the Ministry of Information and Communications Hemraj Bhusal, 34 organizations have received broadcasting licenses of television.

Similarly, the ministry has provided downlink license to 91 companies as well as permission of Direct-to-Home (DTH) to nine organizations.

There are 716 cables throughout the country, informed the Ministry.

NEXT SOUTH ASIAN SOCIAL CONF. IN NEPAL

Kathmandu, 23 Nov.: The next South Asian Social Conference aimed at building discrimination free society is to be held in Nepal, RSS reports from Dhaka.

This was informed at a concluding function of the Seventh South Asian Social Conference in Dhaka Tuesday. The conference was organised under the initiative of the civil society organizations of South Asian countries including Nepal, India, Pakistan, Maldives, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.

In the conference, Dalit NGO Federation Vice-chairman Ram Lakhan Harijan said if Nepal’s statute drafting works are completed, the next conference will be held in Nepal.

The South Asian Social Conference began to witness participation by ethnic, gender and communal groups of the South Asian region since 2009. It was established in 2001.

The conference held from November 18-21 witnessed 618 participating organizations.
