PROBE OF FALZAN AHMED MURDER FINALLY STARTS
Kathmandu, 7 Nov.: A commission formed by the government to investigate into the killing of Faizan Ahmed, general secretary of the Islamic Sangh Nepal, on September 26 has started collecting facts on the case. Ahmad was gunned down near Ghantaghar in Kathmandu on September 26 in broad daylight a few meters from the Office of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
Deputy Attorney General Premraj Karki, who is a member of the commission led by Supreme Court ex-Justice Rajendra Bhandari, said the panel began collecting information including that from newspapers on Sunday.
He added the commission would talk to Muslim organisations that have been seeking facts regarding the killing urgently.
Karki said the commission office, which was set up last Thursday on the premises of the Department of Prison Management, Dillibazar, would try and complete its probe within the stipulated time of one month of its operation. He, however, said time would depend
on the progress the commission makes. Other members of the
commission include AIG Naresh Gurung of Nepal Police.
The Cabinet on October 21 formed a commission to investigate into the murder of Ahmad by dissolving a committee chaired by Joint Attorney General Bishwo Bandhu Pokharel. After public outcry and backlash from the Muslim community, the government on September 27 formed the committee to probe the murder.
However, the committee was dissolved and replaced by a commission, as per the demand of the Muslim organisation. Members of the dissolved committee include SSP Manohar Rimal and Home Ministry Under-secretary Murariraj Sharma.

• DOCTOR BLEEDS NEW LIFE INTO WOMAN

• Kathmandu, 7 Nov.: Doctor Jeeban Adhikari of Salyan District Hospital has turned out to be a real life-saver for a young mother brought to the hospital in a critical condition, Resham DC writes in The Himalayan Times from Salyan..

Amrita Oli (19), of Simkharka, Marke VDC, had delivered a baby at Marke sub-health post, but as she suffered excessive bleeding, she was brought to the district hospital on Wednesday morning.

She would have died for want of blood unless the doctor volunteered to donate his own blood to save her life.

“We were worried that there was no stock of blood (A positive) at the hospital. The doctor saved her

by donating his blood,” said Kul Bahadur, Amrita’s husband.

“As she suffered excessive bleeding after delivery, treatment was not possible at the sub-health post, so we brought her to the district hospital,” said Bahadur. Amrita was admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state.

“As her condition was very critical, I could not help but donate blood to her,” said Dr Adhikari.

“I am very glad that I saved the life of a mother,” said the doctor, adding that Amrita would be sent home with the new-born within three days.

“I got a new life due to the kind-hearted doctor,” said Amrita.

Dr Adhikari had joined the hospital some 14 months ago. It is the second time that blood transfusion has been performed at the hospital.

Due to lack of resources and necessary equipment in the only hospital in the district, patients are usually referred to Dang and Nepalgunj for treatment.
