Kathmandu, 11 Dec.: A five-day progress review meeting of the School Sector Reform Program (SSRP) began Sunday with the participation of the government representatives and donor agencies.

The SSRP is the largest project ever conducted in the country´s education sector. The SSRP was launched in 2009 with the support from the donor agencies with motive to meet the target of Education for All.

Representatives from the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Department of For International Development of the UK, Embassy of Finland, Kathmandu, UNICEF and others were present in the review meeting.

According to the Director General at the Department of Education, Mahashram Sharma, the meeting was regular and organized for a periodic review.

Sharma said the meeting is likely to discuss the efforts made so far under SSRP and remaining challenges in the field.

Under the SSRP, plans were made to fix grade 1-8 as primary level and grade 9-12 as secondary level but the plans were not materialized due to lack of amendment in the Education Act.
