DPM GACHHADAR LEAVES FORBEIJNG SUNDAYTO PREPAE
FOR PM WEN’S POSTPONED NEPAL VISIT
Kathmandu, 25 Dec.: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar is leaving for Beijing on Sunday on a five-day visit, which is expected to pave the way for Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao’s Nepal visit that was postponed last week, Anil Giriwrites in The Kathamandu Post.
About half a dozen senior security and foreign ministry officials are accompanying DPM Gachhadar to Beijing.
“The DPM will meet Chinese Premier Wen and his Chinese counterpart Meng Jianzhu and discuss security arrangement for Chinese PM’s visit. If the Chinese side is convinced of the security arrangement made by the Nepalese side, Chinese PM’s stalled visit would take place soon,” sources said. Gachhadar’s meeting with Meng will be crucial in deciding Wen’s visit to Nepal.”
Earlier, Gachhadar had reportedly turned down the Chinese request to visit China ahead of the Chinese PM’s visit. Last Sunday, DPM and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha held a meeting with Gachhadar at his office and advised him to accept the Chinese invitation and visit China as early as possible.
Chinese Ambassador Yang Houlan had visited Gachadar a day later and finalised the date for Gachhadar’s visit.
The DPM will be accompanied by Chief of Armed Police Force Sailendra Kumar Shrestha, senior Nepal Army General Nar Bahadur Kandel, Joint Secretaries Sewa Adhikari and Shanker Koirala of the Foreign Ministry and Chief of the Operation Department of the Nepal Police, Bhisma Prasai.
Gachhadar’s meeting with Wen will be a courtesy call, but he will discuss detailed security arrangement with his counterpart, Meng, sources said. The official added that Wen’s visit would take place once the Chinese side is fully convinced of the security arrangements in Kathmandu.
