NO FORMAL CABINET DECISION ON ENDING TENURE OF OHCHR-N TENURE UPDATE

Kathmandu, 8 Dec.: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kazi Shrestha said Thursday the cabinet won’t extend a tenure of the OHCHR-N
A cabinet meet couldn’t he held Thursday because of Prime Minister Baburam Bhatatarai’s indisposition.
Shrestha said the UN rights body based in Geneva will have to stop all work in Nepal from Friday.
The tenure extended six months ends midnight Thursday.
Bhattarai government is resisting pressures from western countries and main opposition to extend the tenure.
The predecessor government led by UML Chairman
Jhalanath Khanal extended the tenure but now the party in opposition is seeking the extension of the UN body.
OHCHR-N came to Nepal under western government pressure on parties for two years but the tenure was extended for another two years first and then repeatedly to continue until now.
Once in Nepal, the body is reluctant to leave.
Nepal , which has never been colonized, faced similar pressure until UNMN withdrew 15 Janaury 2011.

KU CLASSES RESUME IN BANEPA

Kathmandu, 8 Dec.: Classes resumed in the Kathmandu University (KU) from Thursday, RSS reports from Banepa.

The classes were resumed after the three-week long padlocking in the Administrative Building of the KU was unlocked.

According to press coordinator of the KU, Hari Manjushree, the padlocking ended after the student
