WEN VISIT ONLY DEFERRED SAYS FOREIGN MINISTER SHRESTHA AGAIN
Kathmandu, 15 Dec.: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao’s visit to Nepal was not cancelled but was only deferred, RSS
reports.
Talking to journalists after inaugurating the international conference on “Strengthening Governance for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change” in the capital on Thursday, DPM Shrestha said, “Date of visit will be fixed soon through diplomatic channel based on both countries consensus.”
On the occasion, he also made it clear that the date for Jiabao’s visit to Nepal was not made public.
Earlier on Tuesday, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Yang Houlan, had informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about Jiabao’s visit postponement.
Shrestha said Jiabao’s visit was postponed for few days as the Chinese Prime Minister was busy in economic conference being held in China. “To describe this issue as diplomatic failure of the government is a false rumor,” Shrestha said.
He said internal preparations were underway from both the countries to fix the date for Jiabao’s Nepal visit.
Some 80 working papers on different topics of mitigation and adaptation to climate change would be presented in the two-day conference.
Experts from SAARC region, Japan, Norway, Singapore and China are participating in the programme.
