Kathmandu, 13 Jan.: Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao arrives for a rare now scaled down visit five –hour visit Saturday while transiting Nepal en route to Qatar.
Wen will hold consultations with Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai while transiting Nepal to Qatar
His scheduled 3-day official visit from 20 December 2011 was cancelled at the last moment in a major embarrassment for the government of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai who personally broke the news of the visit in an attempt for personal diplomatic triumph for himself and his government.
Bhattarai was trying to take personal credit for the visit by
announcing it unilaterally when such high-level exchanges are normally announced simultaneously by concerned governments.
To worsen matters, Deputy Prime Minister and Maoist Foreign Minister even said the visit was never formally announced
Why did the premier then announce the visit to a select group of jornalists at his residence then?
The host government went further and even claimed the visit laws ‘postponed’ because Wen would be busy with discussions with the year-ending budget exercises.
Wasn’t a top Chinese delegation in town for the visit preparations knowledgeable of the premier’s busy schedule?
Shrestha went to Beijing to create an environment for the visit a apparently Beijing isn’t happy with assurances later by another Deputy Prime Miniter Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar who visited the Chinese capital in .

Wen didn’t meet Gachedhar for security related talks during the visit lthough the Chinese government chief met Shrestha earlier.
