SUPREME COURT STAYS DECISION OF GOVT. TO LEGALIZE SEIZURES DURING INSURGENCY
Kathmandu, 19 Jan.: A single bench of Supreme Court Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi Thursday issued an interim order staying an unannounced
cabinet decision to legitimize decisions of seizure of assets by Maoists during the 10-year insurgency.
The decisions were taken by parallel governments during the 10-year insurgency and Maoists in an agreement with parties had agreed to return the seized properties to conclude peace and constitution drafting.
The court, acting of a writ decision to nullify the cabinet decision,
asked both sides to appear before it n 15 days for hearing by a full
bench.
Lawyers of the Democratic Lawyers Association had moved the apex court Tuesday to overturn the cabinet decision opposed Thursday by opposition parties NC and UML..
The parties warned the government will be boycotted in a joint
statement after the meeting.
The two parties said they will build up a coalition on the issue against the government.
They asked Maoists to correct the decision.

DEUBA SAYS PEACE PROCESS STALLED
Kathmandu, 19 Jan.: :Senior leader of the Nepali Congress (NC), Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the impending tasks in peace process and constitution drafting have been stalled due to the UCPN-Maoist, RSS reports from Kailali.
Addressing a news conference in Dhangadhi today, Deuba urged Maoists to remain responsible and complete the twin tasks-- peace process and statute drafting-- in slated time frame.
He further said the seven-point Peace deal inked between Maoists and non-Maoist actors should be implemented at any cost.
He expressed dissatisfaction at the non-implementation of the agreements from the Maoists side.
On the occasion, Deuba claimed that the new constitution would be promulgated on May 27 at any cost as the verdict of the Supreme Court has created obligatory situation to complete the peace process and write constitution.
In a separate context, leader Deuba said the disputes in the party were not resolved yet and added it was responsibility of party president to end the party disputes.
