PARTIES AGREE TO SEND DIFFERING REPORTS ON
FEDERAL STRUCTURE TO CONSTITUTION COMMITTEE
Kathmandu, 17 Feb.: Major parties Thursday reached an
understanding to send two differing reports of a state restructuring commission for additional discussion to the main constitutional drafting committee.
Two weeks after the report laws submitted to Prime Minister
Baburam Bhattarai, who then delivered the reports to Speaker
Subash Nemwang, further discussions haven’t been held on the
suggestions.
There’s no agreement between the major parties where the reports
should be sent for discussion.
‘The reports will be sent to the constitutional committee through the constituent assembly. Maoists are agreed on this,” NC Chief Whip Laxman Ghimere said.
Maoists had earlier suggested sending the reports to parliament’s
state reorganization or state power sharing committees
Agreement was reached at a meeting of top leaders of UCPN(Maoist), NC, UML and chief whips of the parties convened by Nemwang.
Parties are deeply divided on a federal structure.
