MADHAV KUMAR NEPAL URGES NOT TO DRAG NEPAL ARMY INTO DISPUTE
Kathmandu, 20 March: Senior leader of the CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal has urged the sides concerned not to drag Nepali Army into any political dispute and help maintain its purely professional and sensitive image, RSS reports.
Speaking at a program organised to mark the 100 days of founding of Media International here in the Capital on Tuesday, the former Prime Minister also said that the issue of army integration is not like that of appointing a chairman or general manager of any public corporation.
"We committed a mistake by holding the CA elections with the UCPN-Maoist still owning arms and army, but now the completion of the peace process should be a precondition for the constitution drafting", he said.
Referring to the 1990 constitution drafted in a period of three months, Nepal said 70 per cent of the four years of the Constituent Assembly was spent for nothing.
Speaking at the same occasion, President of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum, Nepal, Upendra Yadav claimed that the possibility of the new constitution being promulgated before May 27 is almost over, and said federalism has now become a burden for the major three parties.
He emphasised that a constitution without democracy, inclusion, non-discrimination and federalism would be insignificant.
Minister of State for Finance, Hari Khewa Limbu said the Government is committed to complete the peace and constitution drafting process, and expressed the confidence that the army integration would be completed within a day or two
