MAOIST ESTABALISHMENT FACTIONS MEET TO COUTER BAIDHYA REBELLION

PRACHANDA, PM BHATTARAI FACTIONS MEET
MONDAY TO COUNTER BAIDHYA REBELLION IN PARTY

Kathmandu, 19 March: Maoist establishment factions of
Chairman Prachanda and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai,
who is one of three vice-chairmen, meet Monday to discuss
ways to counter moves of First Vice-chairman Mohan Baidhya
to topple the six-month Bhattarai government,
Prachanda, Bhattarai and Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kazi
Shrestha, who is also foreign minister and a party vice-chairman,
at a meeting Sunday evening decided to seek an explanation
from the second ranking UCPN (Maoist) leader instead of taking action for anti-party activities that could split the party.
Top party leaders outside the capital have been summoned for
the crucial meet.

NEPAL GOVT TELLING CHINA YES TO SETI POWER
PROJECT

Kathmandu, 19 March: Government is sending a formal letter
to China Monday assuring the northern neighbour Nepal is still
interested in continuing with the implementation of the 750MW
West Seti Hydro Power project following criticism
The project was awarded to Three Gorges Corporation without an international tender as per standard business practice.
A parliamentary committee summoned officials of the energy
ministry to furnish details of the contract giving China
majority 75 percent stake in the company implementing and
developing the project for a power hungry country experiencing
maximum 18 hour load-shedding every day in peak dry season.
Government is sending off a formal letter after request by
China for an official government position of the power project.

NEPAL PLAYS NETHERLANDS, CANADA

Kathmandu, 19 March: Nepal plays Netherlands Monday and
Canada Tuesday in the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in qualifier in UAE.
Nepal has to win against Netherlands to move to the next round to quaklify for the World Cup securing three wins against two losses.
Nepal lost against Afghanistan and Papua New Guinea.
