PM ASSURANCE TO PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED

PM ASSURANCE TO PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED
Kathmandu, 23 March: Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has vowed to unveil immediate and long-term programmes, targeting the physically challenged people in the near future, RSS reports.

Receiving a memorandum by the delegation from National Federation of the Disabled, Nepal at his office on Friday, the Prime Minister said the preparations were underway for setting up a separate mechanism at the Prime Minister's office to coordinate the government programmes.

He added that the mechanism would have the representation of the disabled people.

The government was committed to taking possible measures for ensuring equal opportunities, facilities and respects to the disabled and those people who were injured and rendered disabled during the People's War, he said.

Submitting the 37-point memorandum to the Prime Minister, Federation President Sudarshan Subedi called for government allowances and opportunities to the disabled people on the basis of the nature of the disabilities they have.

Ensuring the necessities of the disabled as the fundamental rights in the new constitution, making the government offices disabled-friendly and equal representation of the disabled in every state apparatus are among those demands put forth by the delegation before the prime minister.
