UPDATE PM LAYS FOUNDATION STONE OF REPUBLIC MONUMENT
Kathmandu, 27, March:: Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai laid a foundation stone of the republic monument, named Statue of Republic, at the east corner of the Narayanhity Palace here in the Capital on Tuesday, RSS reports.
The Ministry of Physical Planning and Works is constructing the structure at the east corner of the palace premises to commemorate the establishment of republic in the country.
The Council of Ministers on March 16 had decided to shift the location of the monument to the premises of the former palace .
Department of Urban Development and Building Construction has already prepared the format and concept of the monument through national-level bidding.
According to the Department, the statue will be constructed based on the international style, standards and structures within three years with the investment of Rs 460 million.
The Statue of Republic will commemorate the sacrifices made by the people in different movements for the establishment of republic and progressive changes in the country.
On the occasion, sketches of four different pillars carrying separate meaning were demonstrated.
It is proposed that the centres of all four pillars will be decorated with country’s map and the monument will be 12 metres high, according to the officials of department.
Similarly, construction of a big hall accommodating as high as 300 people at a single time and an attractive garden are also proposed.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister termed this moment as a historic one. “End of the monarchy and establishment of the republic is a historical aspect for this generation,” Dr Bhattarai said.

CHILD THIEVES HEADACHE FOR POLICE
Kathmandu, 27 March: Police have held seven boys from different areas of Dang district in a week for their alleged involvement on theft charges, RSS reports from Dang.
Police have started investigation into their involvement in the cases. Earlier too, the boys were also involved in different robbery cases in locals' houses but police had given clean cheat considering them minor
But, lately police officials have been facing problems to hand over the children to their immediate guardians after the minors' guardians were not ascertained as yet.
The boys were involved in selling gold at cheap price after stealing from the houses and jewelries, according to police. The arrested four boys are below 14 years while three others are of around 15 years.
Meanwhile, as many as 19 people have filed complaints at the Area Police Office for missing jewelries suspecting the boys' hands behind their property loss, police said.
Similarly, police have started to raid in different house after the children gave information about the houses that they sold the stolen jewelries. So far, two tola of gold has been seized in the police raid. RSS
