WORKERS AT PETROL STATIONS ON STRIKE, QUEUES WAIT AT GOVT. FILLING STATIONS FOR HOURS TO GET PETROL
WORKERS AT PETROL FILLING STATIONS ON STRIKE
Kathmandu, 2 March: Workers at privately owned petrol filling
stations stayed away from work for the second consecutive day Monday pressing demands, including minimum Rs 6,300 monthly salary, commission of sale and other demands.
Shortages have been created as car drivers and motorcyclists at
government owned filling station stations for hours in long queues for petrol which was already irregular.
Gas isn’t available freely as government considers mechanisms to ensure its normal distribution.
Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) now supplies POL products only after
prompt settlement of dues from cash-strapped Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) which complains of low fuel prices leading to heavy a corporate losses for which customers are being penalized.
But the government owned monopoly is also incurring heavy losses because of bad management and widespread internal corruption.
