BISKET JATRA ENDS. JUJUBHAI TO PIERCE TONGOUE

Kathmandu, 14 April: JujuBhai Maharjan pierces his tongue for the third
consecutive year Saturday in Bhaktapur marking the end of the nine-day Bisket
jatra in the town. one year after Nepali New Year Day.
The tradition commemorates piercing of a tongue of a demon by angry residents
as a mark of bravery.
Sindhoor jatra is being held in neighbouring Thimi by placing the town’s gods
and goddesses on wooden palenquins for a tour of the town amid celebrations.and festivities.

PM BHATTARI GETS SUPPORT TO HEAD NATIONAL GOVT.

Kathmandu, 14 April: Two days after calling for a national government, Prime
Minister Baburam Bhatttarai, with internal party support, Saturday received the
backing of the the Madeshbadi parties of the 7-month coalition formed after signing a 4-point agreement
Madeshbadi parties have been pushing a regional agenda though the agreement and demanded it should be implemented Saturday as well.
The meeting decided to ‘make maximum effort’ for the candidacy of Battarai who said Friday in a nationally televised address such a government was needed to
complete peace and constitution.
A national government ‘wasn’t possible under anybody else’, said a leader of a coalition partner.
Bhattarai lobbied for the post even as main opposition NC claimed leadership of government.
The coalition partners agreed to implement the 4-point agreement and even
amend the interim constitution to distribute citizenship certificate to children of naturalized citizens.
Aoists and Madeshbadi parties said they will effort a ‘federation with
recognition’.
This comes one day after ceremonial President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav warned he won’t promulgate a constitution that divides the country.
