PRESIDENT ASSURES CONSTITUTION WITHIN DEADLINE
Kathmandu, 10 April: : President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has appealed all to help keep the Mithila culture, civilisation, art, language and literature 'alive', RSS reports from Janakpurdham.

Opening the international Maithili Theater Festival amidst a ceremony here on Tuesday, the President said Maithili culture is 'unique' since it pays respects even to the 'foes'.

He stressed that it was the responsibility of the Mithila people to preserve and promote the Maithili theater traditions which is rich from every perspective.

History shows that Janakapur, the Capital of ancient Mithila, was like a 'heavenly world' and rich in art and culture", said the President on the occasion, adding that no culture, art and traditions should be neglected in the name of politics.

On the occasion, Dr Nityananda Mishra, Ramrekha Pundit, Ramesh Ranjan, Bishnukanta Mishra and Radhakanta Jha were feted in recognition of their contribution to the promotion of Maithili art and culture.

Some eight organisations from Nepal and India are taking part in the Festival organised by the Yuba Natyakala Council Parbaha. It will run until April 13.

Prior to this, talking to media persons in brief, the President expressed his hope that the new constitution would be drafted within the slated timeframe.

Underlining the need to conclude the peace and constitution building tasks on time to find a way out to the existing political deadlock, he said the peace process was on a positive direction.

Dr Yadav further said that he was hopeful of the promulgation of a federal democratic republic constitution in the country, meeting the people's aspirations.

SCRAP DEALER SHOT DEAD IN CENTRAL TERAI
Kathmandu, 10 April: An unidentified group opened fire at a person at Parwanipur, an area bordering Parsa and Bara districts, along the Birgunj-Pathalaiya road section on
Tuesday morning, RSS reports from Parsa.

The group opened fire at Chunu Alam, of Birgunj Sub-metropolitan City-2. Alam is a scrap dealer for Dabur Nepal.

According to police, Alam has sustained serious bullet injuries in his right shoulder. The Narayani Sub-regional Hospital, Birgunj has referred him to National Medical College, Birgunj for further treatment. Condition of Alam is said to be critical.

According to eyewitness, the incident took place at the Show Room of Dugad at Parwanipur while Alam was returning home.

The reason behind the shooting is yet to be ascertained, said police. Investigation into the incident is underway, said Superintendent of police at the District Police Office, Parsa, Ramesh Kharel.
