STRIKE AVERTED FOLLOWING AGREEMENT WITH GOVT. Kathmandu, 25 April: The Rastriya Janata Dal, Nepal and the Federation of Backward Communities, Nepal have withdrawn the country-wide general strike that they had called for tomorrow after a six-point agreement was signed between the government talks team and their representatives today [Wednesday], RSS reports. It has been agreed in the talks held at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction that since a committee has already been formed regarding the demand that the backward classes be also included in the list of indigenous nationalities, the committee and the Ministry of Local Development would be requested to do the needful in that regard. Similarly, it was agreed in the talks that the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives would be requested to initiate works regarding the demands related to the agriculture sector and the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works would be requested for making necessary improvements and constructions regarding the Postal Road, railway and the metro railway service. The Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction also agreed to implement the past agreements related to broadcasting news in the Magahi language, withdrawing cases as per the law and making provisions for free treatment to people injured in course of the movement. Agreement has also been reached regarding classifying the other miscellaneous demands put forth by the Federation and requesting the bodies concerned for addressing the feasible demands in a positive way. On the occasion, Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Satya Pahadi said the justified demands of the Janata Dal and the Backward Classes Federation would be addressed gradually after discussing those with the concerned bodies. She also announced that the Federation has withdrawn the general strike that it had called for tomorrow. Minister Pahadi, Minister Without Portfolio Rajlal Yadav and Secretary at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction Dhruba Prasad Sharma represented the Ministry and President of the Janta Dal and the Federation, Bharat Prasad Mahato, and other representatives represented the Dal and the Federation in the talks. nnnn
