SURYA BAHADUR THAPA CALLS FOR DEMOCRATIC, FEDERAL CONSTITUTION
Kathmandu, 9 April: Chairman of Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) Surya Bahadur Thapa has said the fully democratic constitution with federalism should be promulgated within May 27, RSS reports frpm Birgunj.
Addressing the Parsa district convention of Rastriya Shakti Prajatantra Party formed after the merger of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and RJP, leader Thapa said, “The new constitution could not be promulgated by keeping federalism at bay. If it was ignored the constitution would not be acceptable to all Nepali people.”
The country is moving towards confusion and uncertainty, he said, stressing that, “At this critical juncture, the democratic forces should forge broader alliance to preserve democratic norms, values and culture.”
RPP Chairperson Pashupati Shumsher Rana called for the UCPN (Maoist) to honestly engage for peace and constitution, underlining the need that the political parties should immediately reach to a conclusion on the disputed issues related to electoral system, forms of governance, judicial system and citizenship certificate.
RJP Vice Chairman Prakash Chandra Lohani said that it is the aspiration of Nepali people to have the inclusive, federal, democratic and republican constitution based on equality, equity and freedom of people of Mountain, Hilly and Tarai and the principle of social justice.
Likewise, RPP General Secretary Parshuram Tamang and Joint General Secretary duo, Hemjung Gurung and Bikram Pandey said democratic constitution would not be framed until the Maoists does not hand over its weapons, evacuate the cantonments, return the seized property to the rightful owners and dissolve YCL.
