UN CHIEF CANCELED NEPAL VISIT BECAUSE ON NON-COMPLETION OF PEACE PROCESS
UN CHIEF CANCELED NEPAL VISIT FOR NON-COMPLETION OF PEACE PROCESS
Kathmandu, 3 April: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon cancelled his first scheduled Nepal visit beginning 28 April for various reasons, including non-completion of the peace process.
“The reason behind the postponement of Ban’s visit is not due to differing opinions within and without. It was stalled due to time constraint for Ban himself, lack of progress on Lumbini conference and the logjam in Nepal’s peace process.
“As soon as the peace process makes some headway, Secretary General Ban’s visit is likely to take place,” The Kathmandu Post quoted a ‘knowledgeable source’ as saying.
Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the UN Gyan Chandra Acharya is presently in the capital carrying a letter from a top UN official regretting the cancellation of the visit, the newspaper reported.
“We are sorry for rescheduling your planned international meeting on Lumbini and hope that it will take place soon,” Acharya said quoting the letter’s content.
