US DIPLOMAT HOLDS DISCUSSIONS WITH ARMY CHIEF

Kathmandu, 4 April: U.S. Department of State Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy R. Sherman arrived in Nepal today for a one night visit Wednesday from India.
“She will meet with senior government officials, political party leaders, Nepal Army leadership, representatives of the Tibetan community and civic activists during her stay in Nepal,” the United States embassy sad.
She held discussions with Army Chief Gen Chatraman Singh Gurung.
Prior to her arrival in Kathmandu, Sherman visited India.
Sherman leaves for Bangladesh Thursday.

PRACHANDA SON LEAVES TO CLIMB EVEREST

Kathmandu, 4 April: Shamir Dahal, son of Maoist Chief Prachanda, left for Lukla as head of a 11-membe team to climb the 8848 meters high Mount Everest, the world’s tallest peak, this spring.
Prachanda flagged off the team from his Lazimpat residence Wednesday.
The team says it is climbing for peace and constitution.
The government says it withdrew a Rs.20 million dole for the effort after protests.

TIBETAN, NOT NEPALI KILLED IN CALIFORNIA LCOLLEGE SHOOTOUT KILLED

Kathmandu, Tibetan exile who lived in India before moving to the US was killed
in the incident and no a Nepali in Monday’s shootout at a college in California, AP reports.
She has been identified as Sonam Choedon, 33, of El Cerrito.
According to Associated Press, she grew up in India as the child of Tibetan refugees.
Before moving to the San Francisco Bay area city of El Cerrito a year and a half ago, she had worked in educational administration for Tibet’s exiled government, the AP reported.
Choedon was one of many new Tibetan immigrants who enrolled at Oikos to earn nursing degrees.
Another victim has been identified as Tshering Bhutai, 38, who hailed from the Indian state of Sikkim.
