GOVT. CHETTRIS, BRAHMINS AND OTHERS TO CALL OFF STRIKE Kathmandu, 9 May: The Government has appealed to the Chettri, Brahmin, Dalits and other groups, who have announced a bandh or strike tomorrow [Thursday], to call it off and come for a Dialogue, RSS reports. In a statement issued here today, Minister Barshaman Pun has called the Joint Struggle Committee to come for a dialogue at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction. A five-member talks team has also been formed as part of the present Government's policy to address all the just demands and concerns of the people through the medium of dialogue and talks, and consensus, it is stated in the statement. It may be noted that the joint struggle committee comprising the Chettri Samaj Nepal, Brahmin Samaj Nepal, Thakuri Samaj Federation Nepal, Nepal Dashanami Samaj and others have called for a two-day bandh starting tomorrow, in order to exert pressure on the Government in fulfilling their demand of enlisting them too as indigenous groups of Nepal. nnnn FAR-WEST PROTESTORS FORM 33-MEMBER TALKS TEAM Kathmandu, 9 May: Protestors opposed to bifurcating nine districts of the far-West as proposes by Maoists have formed a 33-member talks team with government that formed a three-member ministerial committee three days ago headed by Deputy Prime Minister Krishna Prasah Shutaula. CA MEET POSTPONED AGAIN Kathmandu, 9 May:: The Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting on Wednesday was adjourned again.The meeting today has been postponed due to special reason, stated a notice issued by the Legislature-Parliament Secretariat, RSS reports.Next meeting of the CA has been set for 3:00 pm on May 10, Thursday.The CA meeting continues to be affected with the political parties failing to forge a consensus on the disputed issues in the Constitution making process. Earlier too, the CA meetings scheduled for April 23, 26, 29, May 1, 2, 4 and 8 had been postponed by issuing a notice. Nnnn RPP-N OPPOSES RULING PARTY EFFORT TO BYPASS EXISTING PROCEDURES FOR CONSTITUTION ADOPTION Kathmandu, 9 May: Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party- Nepal Kamal Thapa has warned that promulgation of new constitution by cutting the Constitution Assembly calendar short could bring constitutional complications, RSS reports. Thapa said people should be given opportunities to deliver their opinions in the nitty-gritties of the new constitution. The constitution should not be promulgated through the short process. Speaking at the meeting of the parliamentary party on Wednesday, Thapa blamed the major three political parties, and the United Democratic Madhesi Front for trying to impose syndicate in the new constitution. The parliamentary meeting discussed the forms of governance, electoral system, federalism, citizenship and other issues, said RPP-N leader Chandra Bahadur Gurung.
