NC DEMANDS GOVT. CONVENE PARLIAMENT EARLIEST . Kathmandu, 2 May: Main opposition NC Wednesday demanded convening earliest a session of parliament/legislature to amend Article 70 of the constitution to facilitate the promulgation of a constitution by 27 May. The party’s parliamentary party took the decision Wednesday and asked government to convene a session of parliament at the earliest.. A bill has already been registered in parliament to amend the article. The bill stipulates a major bill has to be approved by a two-third majority—a process that may be a hurdle in promulgating a constitution. The party issued a statement charging the government for ‘irresponsibility; and ‘reluctance to summon the Legislature-Parliament’s meeting at this crucial time’. The party doubted the Maoist intention not to convene a session of the legislature amid threats to call a special session by collecting signature of 40 percent members of parliament. NC insiders said Parliamentary party leader and Vice-president has initiated the move opposed by supporters of Sher Bahadur Deuba. NA also charged Maoists aren’t interested in promulgating a new constitution. Nnnn
