UPDATE ON POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS Kathmandu, 27 May: With less then nine hours to promulgate a constitution remaining before midnight 27 May, no progress has been made to end a prolonged deadlock. “NO discussions have been held. We have been waiting for nearly four hours. We were called four hours ago,” Dr Ram Sharan Mahat of NC said. UML and Madesh Morcha and Broad Madesh Morcha leaders went to Baluwatar official residence of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai for talks. Leader of Broader Madesh Morcha and Chairman if MJFN Chairman Upendra Yadav confirmed no progress has been made by preparing a constitution to break the impasse. “No progress has been made. They will gobble up the constituent assembly (CA),” Yadav said. Maoists are huddled in discussions of their standing committee. CA members started shouting slogans after it didn’t begin at 11 in the morning as scheduled. Groups are holding sit-ins around the CA building for including their demands in a constitution. The assembly secretariat has prepared a constitution with points agreed so far. MORE
