FARES HIKED UNILATERALLY Kathamandu, 8 June: The truck entrepreneurs here have hiked the transport fare unilaterally citing shortage of trucks. The truck owners unilaterally raised the transport fare by 30-40 per cent since May 28, immediately after the lifting of the two-week long general strike. Although the Truck Entrepreneurs Committee has not endorsed the fare hike on institutional basis, it has lent its undeclared support. Local businessmen say that they are compelled to pay the hiked transport fare as fixed by the truck entrepreneurs. They say the truck entrepreneurs have hiked the transportation fare in the name of shortage of trucks and the syndicate system of operating trucks. They have accused the district administration of turning a deaf ear towards this anarchy in the transport sector and also of not regulating the truck entrepreneurs and enforcing a uniform fare in the district.
