PM ON DRIVE TO WIN OVER HEARTS AND MINDS
Kathmandu, 27 June: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai told a select group of journalists Tuesday night a constitutional government can’t replace him if he resigns to meet opposition demands.
Maoist Chairman Prachanda was present at the meeting even as the party chief of Buattarai’s UCPN Maoist told reporters earlier he would discuss the premier’s resignation mid demands for its replacement by a consensus government.
The premier has launched a drive to win over hearts and minds to retain control of government after his return from Brazil Monday.
Bhattarai consulted his party chief Tuesday morning and representatives of so-called ‘civil society’ in the afternoon and then huddled with journalists in the evening.
“I am ready to tender my resignation but my resignation should not be a pre-condition for consensus,” he reportedly told journalists.
