UML JANJATIS , MADESHIS DISCUSSING FUTURE PLANS TO PUSH ETHNIC PROVINCES Kathmandu, 20 June: Janajati and Madeshi leaders in UML, including Vice-chairman Ashok Rai and Ram Chandra Jha, Wednesday are discussing future plans as they differ with establishment which opposes their demands for a a federation based on ethnicity. UML earlier expelled Ang Kaji Sherpa from ordinary membership of the party for publicly speaking against party policy. A two-day national meet of workers ended in the capital Wednesday favouring multi-ethnic states. Nnnn . NC DISSOLVES CHITWAN DISTRICT WORKING COMMITTEE Kathmandu, 20 June: NC central committee Wednesday dissolved the Chitwan district working committee and decided to replace it with an an ad hoc committee. The ad-hoc committee will form a new district working committee, said Arjun Narshing KC. District President Bikash Koirala was accused by opponents for not protecting Shiva Paudel, to district leader killed in a scuffle inside Chitwan district hail with opponents from UML. A new district committee will be elected in six months. nnnn KIRTIPUR RESIDENTS ALSO OPPOSE MAOIST GOVT. PLANS TO SETTLE BAGMATI SQUATTERS AT SUNDARIGHAT Kathmandu, 20 June:: Locals of Kirtipur Municipality have decided to protest against the government plan to shift the landless squatters, displaced from the Bagmati River bank, to ward no. 14 and 17 at Sundarighat, RSS reports from Kirtipur. . The locals would protest the government move to shift the squatters in the site which is being used for the locals’ last rites, according to Sundarighat Cemetery Protection Society, Ramesh Maharjan. Earlier, the government’s effort to shift the squatters on the premises of Himal Cement Factory had also turned unsuccessful following the locals’ protest. Maharjan said Sundarighat is also the site of archeological importance and the locals have been conserving the site for long. The area spreads over 25 ropanis of land with different historical temples and monasteries. nnnn
