22 NOVEMER ELECTION DIFFICLT TO CONDUCT ON
DEADLINE UPDATE
Kathmandu, 9 July: Election Commission (EC) told Prime Minister
Babura, Bhattarai Monday it needs 120 days after constitutional and other legal amendments to conduct the 22 November constituent assembly (CA) elections by the unilaterally government announced deadline.
The Commission has even forwarded drafts of the amendments to the government.
Chief Election Commissioner charged government of ‘irresponsibility’ in notresppnding to government alerts.
The Commission also told the government of staff shortage to conduct elections with the impending retirement of commissioners who are being superannuated and updating of a voters’ list.
The vote may have to be postponed until after winter.
Government hasn’t held necessary consultations with opposition parties to required amendments.
