DENIAL OF UML LEADERS ON RETENTION OF MONARCHYNOT OCNVINCING Kathmandu, 9 July: UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said Monday there was no written or unwritten agreement to restore monarchy during Janaandolan 2. He was speaking to reporters in Dhangadi. Former King Gyanendra told a television network Sunday night ‘many surviving leaders’ signed a paper on monarchy retention. Khanal said the former king is fishing murky water and attempting to enter politics by visiting temples. Monarchy won’t return just by offering puja at temples with a few followers. as the opposition party leader said the then king has increased his activities. The last king was supported by ‘deshsi and bideshi powers [national and foreigners]}, Khanal said. The king said seven parties signed a paper on the future of monarchy.;. Another UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said twice in three days there was no agreement to retain monarchy between the king and seven parties. The moot point here is not whether monarchy will stage a comeback or not. ;opinions may differ on the issue. But is there a signed agreement on its continuity? Denials of political parties and leaders aren’t convincing. The then king Sunday gave details and background of the SECRET? agreement. The king hinted he may have a copy of the agreement nnnn ,.
