DETAILS OF SIRAHA PROTEST Kathmandu, 6 July: At the call of the Siraha Chamber of Commerce and Industry, business community in Lahan staged a sit-in on the Lahan section along the East-West Highway for around two hours today, protesting the police high-handedness, RSS reports from Golbazar in Siraha. They have accused the local police administration of misbehaving with the proprietor of Hotel Bishal and guests as well as looting their property. Police have arrested a youth in course of the sit-in protest. Markets in Lahan have been completely closed since Thursday at the call of the Chamber. The protest would continue until and unless the demands raised by the Chamber are met, said Chamber president Sunil Mahato. The Chamber has demanded disciplinary action on those police personnel found guilty in the beating, return of the seized property and formation of a high-level committee to investigate into the incident. The dispute arose after a police squad in plain clothes attempted to carry out a raid in the hotel in the night of Wednesday. The hotel management barred the police from carrying out the raid in the hotel. The Chamber has accused the police of beating up hotel owner and its former president Nirash Chaudhary and district president of Nepal Contractors' Association, Bishal Saha. Siraha police chief Rajeshlal Karn, however, denied the charges and said that police went to raid the hotel, following an information that criminals were residing there. The hotel management attacked the police personnel deputed for the raid, he said. He accused the hotel management of helping criminals flee the scene. A motorcycle with the Registration No. Ja 2 Pa 9005 was seized in front of the hotel, he added. RSS nnnn ROGER FEDERER IN 8TH RECORD WIMBELDOM FINAL;BEATS DJOKOVIC IN SEMI-FINALS Kathmandu, 6 July: Six-times champion Roger Federer produced a vintage display to beat defending champion Novak Djokovic 6-3 3-6 6-4 6-3 in the Wimbledon semi-final on Friday, Reuters reports from London. The Swiss maintained his record of never losing a Wimbledon semi-final to reach a record eighth showpiece match at the All England Club with a dominant performance on Centre Court. After the first two sets were shared in less than an hour, the match came alive in the third set. Serving at 4-5 Djokovic blazed a smash long at 15-30 to give Federer two set points. Djokovic saved the first with a forehand but Federer seized his chance, winning a sensational 20-stroke rally with a smash to move within a set of the final. Djokovic could not recover and dropped serve early in the fourth set as Federer rolled to his first final at the grasscourt slam since he beat Andy Roddick in 2009. He will face either Briton Andy Murray or Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Sunday's final. nnnn
