DPM SHRESTHA SAYS CONSTITUTION THROGH CA Kathmandu, 15 July: Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that there was no alternative to drafting a new constitution through the people's elected representatives, RSS reports. Though the CA in the past had settled many of the disputed issues in the constitution drafting, fresh CA elections were announced following disagreement on some issues of federalism, he said. Taking part in an interaction entitled 'Government Policy for Upliftment of Muslim Community' organised by the National Muslim Commission here today, Minister Shrestha underlined the need of ensuring the rights of all classes and communities. The government was committed to guaranteeing the rights of the Muslim community, he said, and stressed that special rights of the backward community be guaranteed in the constitution. Also speaking on the occasion, Commission Chairman Mohammed Nirdosh Ali called for ensuring the rights of the Muslim community in the new constitution. Commission Member Secretary Shamsher Miya stressed the need of establishing a constitutional body for the economic, social, cultural and educational development and uplift of Muslims. Chairperson of the National Dalit Commission Sushila Shripaili stressed the need of establishing the rights of those communities deprived of state means and resources as a special right in the constitution. Chairman of Nepal Hajj Committee Jakir Hussain, and Muslim Commission members Jafrul Hussain Ansari called for guaranteeing the rights of the Muslims to education, health, employment and security. According to data, the population of the Muslim community is around 1.5 million and the government had formed the National Muslim Commission on 21st Baisakh, 2069 BS with a view to protecting and promoting social status of the Muslim community. Nnnn ABDUCTED TEEN FREED BY POLICE IN MOHOTTARI Kathmandu, 15 July: Police have rescued a child, who was abducted from Bardibas in Mahottari district, on Saturday night, RSS reports from Gushala.. Police rescued 14-year old Janak Churaute of Bardibas-3 from Hattilet jungle located along the Jaleshwor-Bardibas road section after being abducted from a chicken shop situated at Bardibas-1. A group of five persons had abducted the child. A team of police deployed from Bardibas Police Post had rescued the child safely. The group had run away leaving the child behind after they saw the police. The child has been handed over to the family. nnnn
