IRRIGATION MINISTER YADAV ORDERS QUALITY WORK IN GANDAK CANAL REPAIR AFTER INDIAN PILGRIMS KILLED THERE
Kathmandu, 21 July:: Minister for Irrigation Mahendra Yadav has inspected the Gandak area of Nawalparasi and directed Liaison Officer at the Irrigation Division Office here to maintain quality in the repair of the Gandak canal and dam which is being carried out by the Indian contractors, RSS reports.
Following the mounting complaints that Indian contractors failed to maintain standard while repairing dam and siphon, the Irrigation Minister arrived here and directed the concerned officer and contractors to heed the demands of the Gandak people.
The people in the Gandak area complained that the Indian contractors did not work as per the 21-point agreement reached between the Nepali and Indian sides nor they provide any compensation while repairing the dam and siphon.
On the occasion, Minister Yadav informed people that an agreement was made to revise compensation to the lands encroached upon by the Gandak dam, and inundation and land erosion caused by the dam and canal. The Indian side did not provide Rs 2.93 billion to the Gandak people as a compensation thereby flouting the agreement.
Similarly, Minister Yadav vowed compensation to the families of those killed in the recent bus accident at Trivedi in the district.
