NC STUDENTS PROTEST FERTILIZER SHORTAGE Kathmandu, 5 July: Students of Nepal Students Union (NSU) today [Thursday] staged a sit-in in front of the Agricultural Inputs Office, Kuleshwor, demanding smooth supply of chemical fertilizers to the farmers, RSS reports. The NSU said that the students affiliated to the organization staged the sit-in to pile pressure on government as the State was not being sensitive for the management of the chemical fertilizers. Addressing the protest programme, central leader of Nepali Congress Gagan Thapa accused the government of demonstrating its incompetence by failing to provide chemical fertilizers to the farmers till the end of the Nepali month of Asar. He said it was unfortunate that the government failed to supply the chemical fertilizers on time though government's attention was drawn in this regard. SU leader Kundan Raj Kafle warned of stern agitation against the government if demand for chemical fertilizers was not met at the earliest. On the occasion, the NSU leaders urged the government to take effective step as lack of chemical fertilizer in the paddy plantation season could result in less production of the country's main food crop. nnnn
