SUMIT KUMAR AGRAWAL HONORARY CONSUL OF PERU Kathmandu, 23 July:: Sumit Kumar Agarwal, managing director of MS Group has been appointed as honorary consul of Peru in Nepal, an announcement said. nnnn 70MW MORE ELECTRICITY Kathmandu, 23 July: A total of 70 megawatt of electricity is expected to be added to the national grid this fiscal year after the completion of six different hydel projects, according to the Ministry of Energy, RSS reports.. Six hydro projects built with public and private investment would come into operation during the fiscal year, contributing 70 MW of electricity to the national transmission system. Secretary at the ministry Hareram Koirala said that, however, the addition of the 70 MW too would not meet the total national demand for electricity. According to the ministry, the projects expected to be completed during this fiscal year include the Chameliya Project of 30 MW, Spring and Tallomodi of 10 MW each, Aakhu of 8 MW, 4.5 MW of Bijayapur and 5 MW of Siuri Project. Similarly, other small hydro power projects would also generate electricity. The ministry has claimed that Chameliya Hydropower Project would be completed by this year even though construction of the project was delayed due to some problems in the construction of the tunnel. With this, the total electricity production in the country would reach 780 MW. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has estimated that demand for electricity would reach 1163 MW by the end of the current fiscal year and load shedding hours could not decrease despite 70 MW was added to the national system. The NEA is constructing the Chameliya Hydro Power Project while other projects are being built up by the private companies. Likewise, the government has planned to electrify 335,000 households and is planning to import electricity from India. Presently, the government is importing 145 MW electricity from India. The ministry is mulling to generate one megawatt in the Singha Durbar with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The ADB has already extended 2.3 U.S dollars financial support for the same so far. nnnn
