PAST TAKE OF PM BHATTARAI
.
Kathmandu, 4 Aug.: Prime Minister Bhattarai attempted Friday to defend
a letter he and Chairman Prachanda write to Indian rulers [then BJP now the main
Opposition] assuring New Delhi the party’s won’t work against Indian interests isn Nepal.
‘I knew SD Muni. I sent a letter to Security Advisor Brijesh Mishra
through him. But a replay came five/six months later confirming the
receipt of the letter,” the premier said Friday.
Bhattarai defended the letter only days after Prof. SD Mini came to the
capital and defended the Maoist communication to the Indian government even as it had deployed troops to fight the riyal regime.
The party was kept in the dark and even until the last days before of anti-Indian rhetoric conducted a trench war with the southern neighbour where top leaders were living in exile with knowledge and even consent of New Delhi even as Maoists
were declared terrorists in the eyes of India.
PM Bhattarai Friday attempted to give the impression the letter sent to
India was no different from letters sent to other governments seeking
support for the Maoist revolution.
Knowledgeable sources said the letters were different.
But what is evident is that the contents have created an embarrassment for
New Delhi which claims parties in Nepal are managing their own
affairs.
PM Bhattarai now admits otherwise.
