Nnnn DEMAND IN UML TO REVIVE CA Kathmandu, 3 Aug.: - In sharp contrast to the party's official decision to go for a fresh mandate, a majority of former lawmakers of the CPN-UML on Thursday suggested the party leadership revive the Constituent Assembly by forging Consensus, Bhadra Sharma writes in The Kathmandu Post.. Twenty-eight of the 88 lawmakers who spoke in a meeting held at the party headquaters at Balkhu here urged the leadership to revoke the party's earlier decision, arguing that fresh polls will not be possible without the revival of the CA. "Fresh mandate will not be possible without the revival of the CA. The rebirth is needed to hold any election," said former lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari. The lawmakers were invited to the party headquarters to share their views on the causes for the CA dissolution. The party has formed a high-level committee led by Secretary Shankar Pokharel to issue a white paper explaining the party's official version of the CA failure, its role and new political course in the changed context. On the way forward, lawmakers said CA revival can be taken as an option to consolidate the achievements made so far and promulgate the new constitution. If the parties agree on contentious issues, we should be also ready," said Bijay Kumar Poudel. Some weeks ago, the party had decided to go for fresh parliamentary elections to complete the remaining tasks of peace and constitution. It has also sought replacement of the Baburam Bhattarai-led government with the national consensus one to hold elections. A large section of the Janajati leaders in the UML has also been speaking for CA revival. In the meeting, lawmakers said the CA was disbanded as top leaders failed and that the lawmakers had no hand in the dissolution. They said their role was "hijacked" in the name of forging consensus outside the CA. Some leaders even criticised the party leadership for failing to take a lead in completing the peace and constitution processes. "We have worked sincerely, but the leaders tried to forge consensus on unresolved issue outside the CA. They made a few agreements but later failed to implement them," said nnnnn
