CONSTITUTIONAL PROVISION FOR PARLIAMENTARY HEARING TO CONFIRM GOVT. APPOINTMENTS SHOULD STAY SAYS MADHAV KUMAR NEPAL Kathmandu, 13 Sept. Senior leader of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal on Thursday said the President need not do whatever government recommends, RSS reports. Talking briefly to media at the Tribhuvan International Airport upon his arrival home after participating in the eight joint conference of the Nepalis living in the Latin and south America, leader Nepal said the provision of parliamentary hearing for the appointments in the constitutional bodies should not be removed. "President should not do whatever the government recommends. The parliamentary hearing can't be removed through the use of the provision of removing of difficulties, leader Nepal stressed. He accused the UCPN-Maoist of saying one thing and doing another. The corruption has slurred the entire Maoist party. Political consensus was eluding because of these reasons as well, he argued. Leader Nepal further accused Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai of spreading false rumour among foreign leaders about likelihood political consensus within mid-September in Nepal before he left for Tehran. The restoration of the Constituent Assembly or fresh election could be decided only after settling the disputed issues of constitution writing, according to former prime minister Nepal. He also stressed the need that if the consensus eludes, the opposition parties must launch vigorous protest against this government. nnnn
