RULING COALITION MEETS AMID FAILURE TO HOLD DECLARED ELECTIONS Kathmandu, 22 Nov. Ruling coalition constituents—UCPN Maoist and Madesh Morcha are holding emergency discussions Thursday. The meeting was convened as a deadline given by President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav to form a consensus government by Thursday ends and immediately after controversial announcement of a budget by government for remaining eight months of the current fiscal year. The government move has drawn opposition flak amid threats to intensify anti government and anti-Maoist protests to topple the government and relaceit with another government of national consensus. The government also couldn’t hold promised constituent assembly elections whose deadline was Thursday and has instead announced another assembly election sometime in April. May Opposition cooperation is necessary for the vote amid prediction election won’t be held again; election announcement was only a ploy to extend government tenure and continue in office. Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai is addressing the nation- Thursday amid radio reports President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav may issue an appeal for formation of a national government. Maoists say the incumbent government under Bhattarai can be turnedinto a consensus government. Nnnn 11 STUDENT ORGANIZATION THREAT OF MOVEMENT TO FORCE NAME CHANGE Kathmandu, 22 Nov.: Eleven student organizations affiliated with various political parties have warned of intensified movement if education ministry doesn’t start initiative to rename educational establishments with foreign names. The organizations affiliated with political parties met Wednesday and issued the threat to change names Replacements names shod have local bearing. Assurances of name changes haven’t been implemented by education ministry. Nnnn
