PRESIDENT HOLDING CONSULTATIONS WITH INDIAN OPPOSITION FRIDAY Kathmandu, 28 Dec.: Visiting President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav is scheduled to hold consultations with opposition leaders in New Delhi Friday. Thursday’s scheduled meeting with Defence Minister AK Anthony is being held Friday. MORE TRANSIT TREATY BEING RENEWED WITHOUT CHANGES Kathmandu, 28 Dec.: The cabinet Thursday authorized the commerce secretary to renew the Nepal-India Transit Treaty without changes. The government had fist proposed amendments. The renewal is important for land-locked Nepal to guide its trade with countries other than India to import and export goods though Indian ports. The treaty expires 5 January. Nnnn TERM TO MAJ. GEN NARESH BASNET EXTENDED Kathmandu 28 Dec.: The cabinet Thursday decided to extend the term of Major General Naresh Basnet, published repots said. Formal announcement was not made by the government spokesman after the meeting. But published reports said Friday Mag.Gen Nasnet has a mandate to accomplish his responsibility in the technical side of Nepali Army. According to him, the government has extended the term of Major General Basnet, who was retiring soon, for the next two years. This is the second time Basnet’s term has been extended. In 2010, the then government had extended his term for two years. NA sources claimed that Basnet was in controversy for financial misappropriation in different projects. nnnn
