DEUBA SAYS HE’S READY TO TAKE MORAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR WAR-ERA INCIDENTS Kathmandu, 22 Jan.: Former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday said that he was ready to take moral responsibility of the incidents carried out in insurgency period during his stay in the office, RSS reports from Salyan.. Speaking at a news conference organised by the Nepal Press Union Salyan Chapter today, leader Deuba said, "I am ready to take moral responsibility of the wartime incidents happened during my premiership, and Prachanda also should dare take moral responsibility of the incidents carried out from the Maoists side." Nepali Congress senior leader Deuba accused the Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai of making a national shame by trying to give an excuse to the criminals though the Prime Minister was a follower of the constitution. The NC leader also said that the proposed Truth and Reconciliation Commission was not acceptable adding that the commission should be formed through consensus. He also claimed that the opposition parties' anti-government protest was not only for government change but to give an outlet to the country also."Cause of all problems is the present government. Talks, dialogue and consensus will not be held until this government topples," he added. nnnn UML CHAIRMAN KHANAL URGES CONSENSUS Kathmandu, 22 Jan.: Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal has said that there was no alternative to consensus in order to resolve the national crisis, RSS reports.. Addressing a programme organized on the occasion of the ninth establishment day of the Local Body Employees' Association on Tuesday, he said the employees working for the local bodies should become united because the country at present was in need of the protection of its pride and prestige. He further said it was unfortunate that top posts in the constitutional bodies remained vacant. By making every constitutional body vacant, the present government was leading the country to shambles, he blamed. Chairman Khanal accused the ruling parties of creating chaos in the country. According to him, debate and discussion were essential for the consensus. On the occasion, Executive Officer of Kathmandu Metropolis, Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, said the employees in the local bodies should work realizing the need of the service recipients. Nnnn KOIRALA ASKS ACTIVISTS TO BRING DOWN GOVT. Kathmandu, 22 Jan.:: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala on Tuesday warning of stern agitations against the government, directed his party’s cadres to be ready for that, RSS reports from Cjitwan.. Speaking at a cadres' meet in Chitwan district this morning, NC president said that the incumbent government is the main hindrance to political consensus. “Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai should step down to pave way for the formation of a national unity government,” said Koirala. On the occasion, Koirala also accused Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai of sticking to the government for power. Saying that Chitwan district is in frontline in every issues, he expressed belief that the anti-government protests will be expedited from Chitwan. nnnn
