MAOIST CHIEF CLAIMS OPPOSITION FEARED VOTE
Kathmandu, 19 Jan.: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ´Prachanda´ has said that political consensus was not forged as the opposition political parties feared the upcoming elections to the constituent assembly (CA), RSS reports.
Inaugurating the party´s Central Library and Information Center at the party headquarters in Paris Danda this morning, the UCPN (Maoist) chief said consensus remained elusive due to opposition parties´ power hungry nature and their fear to face the CA elections.
"Opposition parties are not ready for consensus. Instead, they are hell-bent on foiling the achievements obtained from the people´s sacrifices and contributions. The country will not get an outlet until people discourage such practices," Prachanda said.
The UCPN (Maoist) Chairman said that his party was fully determined to hold the fresh CA elections even in the first week of June though the opposition parties were presenting themselves irresponsibly.
Hinting at the opposition parties´ anti-government protests, the UCPN (Maoist) Chairman said that only dialogue and talks would end the ongoing deadlock, and the Maoists were committed to that end.
He also said that the UCPN (Maoist) leaders were holding informal talks with the opposition leaders to forge consensus and added that the Maoist party would leave no stone unturned to forge consensus to end the political stalemate.
On a separate context, Prachanda said his party would pay special attention for expansion and development of libraries as they were the source of knowledge.
He argued that the UCPN (Maoist) was trying to promote the reading culture by establishing the library at the party´s central office.
Also speaking at the same programme, UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Agni Sapkota reasoned that the communists should be studious and the library was established to promote the reading culture of cadres and commoners as well.
Coordinator of the library Ram Kumar Sharma told RSS that over 10,000 books have been collected so far and the book collection bid would be made broader.Similarly, in a bid to facilitate media persons for reporting, the information center was also established at the premises of UCPN (Maoist) central office. The party said that the journalists would be provided with internet service for free.
