RULING MAOISTS CONDEMN NEPALI COLONEL’S ARREST IN LONDON Kathamndu, 5 Jan. UCPN Maoist leading a coalition with five Madeshbadi parties Saturday called for the release of Col. Kumar Lama charged in Britain for allged rights violations during the 10-year Maoist insurgency supported in the later stages by the British government. “He should be immediately released and if he had committed any wartime crime, it should be investigated in country,” said party Spokesman Agni Sapkota,. who is also charged for abuses, said. More than 18,000 persons died on both sides of the conflict in which Nepal Army, the sworn enemy of the rebels,were defeated. They lost in the battlefields in India, EU and USA. Sapkota said Col. Lama should be tried at home and not abroad if there were any abuses. and charged the British move was to derail the peace process. CPN –Maoist that split from UCPN Maoist also condemned the British move Friday. nnnn.
