BIRATNAGAR LIFTS CRICKET TITLE Kathmandu, 14 Feb. Region No 1 (Biratnagar) lifted the U-19 National Cricket Tournament in Pokhara defeating Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) at 10 runs. Biratnagar batted first and was all out for 168 runs in 49.5 overs. Bhairahawa was all out for 158 in 49.1 overs. nnnn DAMANNATH DHUNGANAA OPPOSES GOVT. HEADED BY CHIEF JUSTICE Kathmandu, 14 Feb. Former Speaker Damanath Dhungana, retired election commissioner Birendra Mishra and several activists of the ‘civil society’; opposed a government hded by a chief justice. They opposed current moves through a press statement saying ‘freedom of judiciary, Interim Constitution and human rights will be undermined’. Nnnn DEMAND TO END VIOLENCE AGAINSRT WOMEN Kathmandu, 14 Feb.:: Hundreds of thousands of women and men came to streets of Kathmandu today chanting a slogan "Lets´ end violence against women (VAW).", RSS reports. Under the "One Billion Rising Campaign", rights activists including women and men from different sectors participated in a rally from Baluwatar to Shantibatika carrying placards with the slogan that VAW should be ended from the society. The campaign is launched in different countries of the world today to express solidarity for ending VAW. The rally, demanding guarantee of ending VAW, started from Baluwatar and converged into a corner meeting after reaching Shantibatika after going through different places of the capital. Participants in the rally organised by various women rights organizations including Sancharika Samuha, demanded that laws to end VAW, be brought. On the occasion, different women artistes staged a drama reflecting a message that women are not a commodity, but are human beings. Chairperson of Sancharika Samuha Nirmala Sharma and women rights activist, Bandana Rana, demanded that a strict law be brought for ending VAW and stern action be taken against the accused in such cases.
