CPN MAOIST CONTINUES PROTEST AGAINST REGMI GOVT. INSTALLED Kathmandu, 18 Feb.: Speakers at a programme in the capital have expressed worries over the proposal of making prime minister to the Chief Justice, saying it would lead the country to further crisis rather than creating atmosphere for consensus, RSS reports.. At the programme organised by the National Revolutionary Intellectuals' Organisation in the capital on Monday, the speakers criticised that the proposal of an apolitical person in the government leadership was inappropriate on the grounds of constitutional and political viewpoints. Secretary of the CPN-Maoist Dev Prasad Gurung said it was treacherous scheme to elevate the Chief Justice to the prime ministerial post. It utterly violates the political and constitutional norms, he stressed. He further said the machination was being hatched to enfeeble the democratic and party system and sovereignty due to the pressure of the foreign forces. Chief of the Publicity Department of the CPN-UML, Pradip Gyawali, said that the CJ leadership was aimed at enfeebling party system rather than resolving crisis. At the present condition, it was relevant and better to have the CJ expressed his views. Similarly, central member of the Nepali Congress, Pradip Giri, said the government in the leadership of the Chief Justice was a 'fatal medicine' rather than a disease. Handing over government leadership to the apolitical person would further prolong the transition, he argued. Moreover, general secretary of Nepal Bar Association, Sunil Pokhrel, said present proposal of making prime minister to the CJ would gag the fundamental rights of the citizens. Kathmandu, 18 Feb.: The federal democratic front has warned of launching vigorous agitation if the constitution without federalism and the federalism without identity was not guaranteed, RSS reports.. At a gathering organised jointly by the Front—that brings together the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal, Rastriya Madhes Samajbadi Party, Tamsaling Nepal Rastriya Dal, and Jana Mukti Party Nepal on Monday, the speakers said they would continue agitation because federalism, secularism and other achievements of the people's movement were facing threats. Addressing the gathering, central member of Nepali Rastriya Dal Beli Lama accused the big three political parties of putting federalism, a hard-earned political asset at risk. Similarly, Kathmandu district coordinator of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal, Santosh Silwal said his party would wage vigorous struggle to ensure the rights of the indigenous nationalities.
