BAIDHAYA THREATENS TO BREAK PRACHANDA, BHATTARAI LIMBS Kathmandu, 19 March: CPN Maoist Chairman Mohan Badhaya Monday threatened to break limbs of Chairman Prachanda and his deputy and former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai if promised second round constituent assembly elections are held in June with n option to coduct itin November if the June deadline isn’t met. “If NC and UML candidates enter villages with slogan for elections under the present situation, we will break not only their limbs but also of Prachanda and Baburam,” Baidhaya threatened in Banepa. Threats could be real. United Maoists prevented other parties from entering villages for a campaign and won the first constituent assembly elections; parties, including NC and UML, protested when they lost the vote amid charges of rigging. NC and Maoists went on a murderous spree during the royal regime when King Gyanendra called local elections. Girija Prasad Koirala publicly a[pealed o Maoists and supporters to kill candidates; the vote was held even as the threats were carried out. Threats by top leaders to disrupt elections, therefore, are real. Meanwhile, civil servants’ unions have threatened to boycott the vote if an ordinance onto the Civil Service Act is not endorsed immediately. Two ordinances before the president demand promotion and security. Nnnn
