CHINESE VICE-PREMIER COMING Kathmancu, 6 May:: Chinese Vice-Minister for Education Hao Ping is arriving here on Tuesday on a five-day official visit to Nepal, RSS report.. Spokesperson at the Ministry of Education Mahashram Sharma told RSS that Hao is visiting Nepal at the invitation of Minister for Education Madhav Poudel to share ideas on matters of common concern and mutual interests as well as to promote bilateral assistance in education sector. Nepal is likely to urge the Chinese Vice-Minister, who will be leading a three-member delegation, to provide technical assistance for employment-generating education as per government the policy. Sharma, who is also the Chief of the Foreign Assistance Coordination Division of the Ministry, said the government would urge the Chinese Vice-Minister to help establish a Polytechnic Institute. Sharma said requests would be made for increasing the quotas of scholarships for medical students, providing technical skills and for capacity building of Nepali human resources by mobilizing Chinese volunteers. According to Sharma, the Embassy of China, Kathmandu, has expressed willingness to construct libraries, building and physical infrastructure in 10 different Himalayan districts within a month. During his visit to Nepal last year, the then Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao had agreed to help physical infrastructure development in 10 districts in Nepal. Soon after return of the Chinese Vice-Minister, a 10-member technical team would begin the construction works of the 10 schools. During his visit, Hao is scheduled to visit Vice President Parmanand Jha and Education Minister Poudel separately. Nnnn UN OFFICIAL DEALING WITH LDC ISSUES DISCUSSES ELECTIONS WITH CHAIRMAN REGMI Kathmandu, 6 May: Visiting UN Under-Secretary General Gyan Chandra Acharya called on Chairman of the Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi on Monday and discussed matters relating to possible UN support in the forthcoming CA elections, RSS reports. During the meeting, Mr Acharya also conveyed to Chairman Regmi the best wishes extended to him by the UN Secretary General, according to spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Mahendra Kumar Thapa. Also today, US Ambassador to Nepal Peter W Bode called on Chairman Regmi and discussed matters relating to bilateral cooperation and the ongoing preparations for the CA elections. Likewise, a delegation of youth leaders and students led by Finish Ambassador to Nepal Asko Luukkainen called on Chairman Regmi.
