FLIGHTS DISRUPTED AT ONLY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Kathmandu, 20 May: National and International flights were disrupted for some time at the Tribhuvan International Airport today as the airport was closed for a brief period, RSS reports.. The flights were disrupted for an hour from 11:00 am due to unfavorable climate following the rainfall that occurred today. National and international flights could not be operated and aircrafts could not land after TIA was closed for some time. Manager of the Domestic Airport under TIA, Purna Chudal, said that the airport was closed as the climate was unfavorable following the rainfall. National and international flights were affected as there could be technical difficulty to make flights during heavy rainfall and unfavorable climate.There are 240 domestic flights and 70 international flights from TIA, everyday. Similarly, mountain flights were also disrupted today. Out of 25 flights, only eight flights were made for sight seeing, said TIA. nnnn COMMISSION PRESENTS REPORT ON MEDUA Kathmandu, 20 May:: A High-Level Commission-2069 BS related to inclusiveness in media houses has presented its report to Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Poudel Monday, RSS reports.. The 19-member Commission was formed by including representatives from women, indigenous nationalities, Dalit and Madhesi journalists and other organizations related to journalism as per the Cabinet meeting on Bhadau 28, 2069 BS. The government decided to constitute the commission in response to a relay strike launched by Madheshi journalists demanding that media houses should be made inclusive. The Commission headed by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications Sushil Kumar Ojha had started its work on Mangsir 14, 2069 BS. It had 12 jurisdictions. Receiving the report, Minister Poudel pledged its implementation. The government would implement the report after study, he said. The Commission has submitted a 14-point feedback in terms of making both state and private media houses inclusive. On the occasion, Commission coordinator and Ministry Joint Secretary Ojha said the report was prepared after holding extensive discussions with all the bodies concerned. The report will prove a milestone in making media houses inclusive. The feedbacks given by Commission are related to recognizing media houses ensuring proportional representation of women, indigenous nationalities, dalits, Madhesi, Muslims, disabled, and backward communities as the national-level media houses, giving priority to those media houses abiding by inclusive criteria and promoting mother tongues and establishing the Communications Inclusive Fund. Likewise, the state-owned media houses are suggested give a space to the political, social, cultural and gender matters of women, indigenous nationalities, dalits, Madhesi, Muslims, disabled and backward communities to make them inclusive, give priority these communities while making appointments there and implement the reservation system in media house as in the Public Service Commission. The private media houses have been suggested to enforce the policy of inclusiveness. Besides, the report has mentioned the provision of providing facilities to those private media houses adopting the policy. The government has been suggested expand jurisdictions of Press Council and thereby establish an inclusive ´media council´ and implementing all policies and programmes related to inclusiveness through the same council. An independent body with the representation of media experts shall be formed to take measures for making Nepali media houses inclusive, the report stated. Nnnn GOVT INVESTIGATING ILLEGAL SMARTPHONE INTERVIEW FROM ATOP EVEREST Kathmandu, 20 May: A British mountaineer´s interview with the BBC on his smartphone from the top of Mount Everest has stirred controversy with the Nepalese government calling the broadcast "illegal", officials said Monday, AFP reports from the Nepali capital.. British mountaineer Daniel Hughes gave a live video interview to the BBC on his smartphone from the 8,848-metres (29,029-feet) peak on Sunday morning. "This is the world´s first live video call -- never been done before -- from the rooftop of the world," said the climber while breathing heavily through an oxygen mask and wearing a clown´s red nose for charity. "I don´t have a camera man with me. It´s me with a pole, an HTC smartphone...and of course my red nose. It´s a very proud moment to be here and two-and-a-half years in the making," he added. The mountain has had mobile phone coverage for several years. But Purnachandra Bhattarai, joint secretary of Nepal´s tourism ministry, told AFP Hughes had broken the law by not seeking permission from the government for his broadcast. "Even the tourism ministry has to seek permission from the communication ministry to film, broadcast or conduct media related events on Everest," Bhattarai said. He said Hughes´ trekking agency was under investigation as a result of the incident but did not elaborate further. During a so-called "fair weather" window on Sunday, 146 people reached the summit of the world´s highest peak, featuring teams claiming records for the first women from Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, Indian sisters as the first twins, and a British climber completing the feat for his eleventh time. Hughes was climbing to raise money for a Britain-based charity. The mountain has become a popular symbolic pilgrimage site for record-setting, awareness-raising, and pledge drives for charities, which have increased crowds on the mountain. Last year, more than 250 climbers reached the summit in a 48-hour stretch of good weather despite warnings of potentially deadly bottlenecks in the "death zone" above 8,000 metres. A brawl between European climbers and Nepalese Sherpas high on the mountain in April cast a shadow over the climbing season, which marks the 60th anniversary of Edmund Hillary´s and Tenzing Norgay´s maiden summit. "This summit season has already been marked by controversy and we don´t want it to happen again," said Bhattarai. nnnn
