NEPALI TEACHER RELEASED IN DOHA Kathmandu, 12 May: Nepali teacher Dorje Gurung was released in Doha Sunday after being detained for 1- days, punloshed reports said. He was held for allegedly insulting Islam. Nnnn KARKI APPOINTMENT A COMPULSTION SAYS NC CHIEF Kathmandu, 12 May : Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has said that the appointment of the head of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) was a result of the given context and out of compulsion, RSS reports.. Releasing a book ´Omkar Prasad Shrestha : Bichar ra Rachana´ by Congress leader Omkar Shrestha here on Sunday, he said a challenging decision was taken in order to fulfill the need and responsibility towards fulfilling the vacuum in the constitutional bodies for a long time. "The CJ-led government and the appointments to the constitutional bodies were both controversial but a result of context and compulsion. These incidents have been a great learning", he said. However, he said there was no point making it an issue of debate as it would weaken democracy and nationality, Koirala added. Former Speaker Taranath Ranabhat, critics Dr Ramesh Kumar Dhungel and Dr Tulasi Bhattarai, and writer Shrestha shed light on various aspects of the book. The 300-page book includes more than 46 articles and interviews relating to Shrestha on matters relating to Nepal´s democratic movement, transitional policy and the problems facing the nation. nnnn NO DANGER OF REPRESSION SAYS MAHANTA THAKUR Kathmandu, 12 May: Chairman of the Tarai-Madhes Loktantrik Party, Mahantha Thakur, has said that the election of the second Constituent Assembly (CA) would be held by addressing rightful demands of the parties, which are against the process of election, RSS reports from Nepalgunj.. At a news conference organised by the Madhesi Journalists´ Society, Banke, here today, Thakur said that it was happy to start necessary processes by the government for election, and added that the government should declare the date for CA election soon by bringing the dissenting parties on consensus. Stating that CA election was indispensible for ending the transitional period in the country, he said the CA will finalize the theoretical aspects of the constitution building even if it was not finalized before CA election. Responding to a query, Chairman Thakur clarified that there was no any kind of foreign interference in politics in the country and expressed the view that we should not think it as foreign interference if two neighbouring countries—India and China take interest in the country´s politics. Saying the party is in favour of one Madhes as an autonomous province, he said there could be two provinces in Tarai if there was consensus among political parties. Thakur further said that there was no danger of regression in the country as people rumor. Nnnn MAOISTS DON’T FAVOUR FEDERALISM SAYS NC’S NIDHI Kathmandu, 12 May: Nepali Congress leader, Bimalendra Nidhi, said federalism does not have space in the Unified CPN (Maoist)´s ideology, RSS reports from Dhanusha.. It is clear from the global experience where governments are run under communist system. Speaking at the NC party programme at Jabdi of Dhanusha Constituency No. 3, he said the UCPN-Maoist talks about federal democracy but has been preparing for a unitary system and that there have been difficulties to write constitution. He said Nepali people would not be the masters of their country unless the Constituent Assembly promulgates new constitution, and urged one and all to vote for giving majority to NC to ensure federalism in the country. nnnn
