PACHANDA, REGMI DISCUSSISONS Kathmandu, 28 May: Chairman of the Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi held discussions with Maoist Chairman Prachanda Tuesday morning at Baluwatar Tuesday morning. The talks on the even of Republic Day being officially celebrated this year covered promulgation of election laws suggested by the election commission and announcement date for second constituent assembly elections. The government can’t meet a commitment to announce a date with the support of three major parties and Madesh morcha by removi g differenes. NC President Sushil Koirala absented himself from the meeting Monday and went instead to Tanahu to attend a party programme. Thirty-three parties, including 33 parties are against elections and the Regmi government appointed to conduct polls. As government can’t announce poll dates with resolution of differences between major parties on election lws, government can ask the president to promulgate laws unilaterally. But the move isn’t a practical alternative for the Regmi government charges by parties for delay in announcing election date even as political parties differ on pre-conditions for a vote. Wednesday is the last day for parties to register for the vote.
