Nnnn MAOISS FOR 33 PERCENT WOMEN REPRESENTATION Kathmandu, 15 May:: Chairman of Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" has pledged to ensure 33 per cent women participation in the forthcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election, RSS reports.. During his meeting with women rights activists Wednesday, the UCPN-Maoist Chairman Dahal said," There should be 33 per cent women participation in every state apparatus". Discussions about the same matters were going on among the four political parties, he said. He further said although women have incomparable contribution to the Nepali politics, they are still backward due to various reasons. On the occasion, Saloni Singh, Chairperson of Didibahini, a women organization, submitted a memorandum on behalf of 24 organisations, demanding guarantee of women participation in the election act. Chairperson of Sancharika Samuha Nirmala Sharma sought guarantee of at least 33 per cent women participation in the election ordinance. Nnnn FORMER PM BHATTARAI CALLS FOR MAOIST MAJORITY Kathmandu, 15 May:: Former prime minister and UCPN-Maoist Vice Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said that his party need the majority in the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election to draft a new constitution, RSS reports from Butwal.. Promulgation of a new constitution through the first CA was not possible as conventional parliamentary parties wished to continue the old system he said, claiming the new constitution would be drafted only if his party got victory in the upcoming election. "No other political parties except the UCPN-Maoist will give the nation new constitution", he added. Addressing the Free Students' Union election assembly organised by the All Nepal Independent Students' Union-Revolutionary Butwal Multiple campus unit Wednesday, leader Bhattarai said democracy, economic development and prosperity of the country and nationality are the prime election agendas of the party. He urged the people to vote for the party in the upcoming election. He stressed the need of maintaining harmonious ties with neighbouring countries to attain the economic development.
